Long Service Award: Slydev

BZ to Slydev for qualifying for the Long Service Medal (LSM), which was awarded today.

Slydev has been working on the design of Endeavour's main armament - torpedoes. Prototype systems based on Slydev's work are now in production - more news on that soon!

Check Out the Helm

The ISDC workshops have been busy the last few months building a simulation space for training on ship systems. This modular new space (more details coming) will contain multiple consoles for ship systems and the first to be profiled is the helm.

Bridge Simulator

Installation of a simulation room is underway which will allow more intensive training and simulation exercises in a bridge layout with up to five stations, as well as the opportunity to try out different physical console configurations and layouts.

The Hunt is On

It's time to fly! It's taken longer than we’d expected, but work on what we’ve been calling the “MVP” is done. This means impulse maneuvering and tactical systems are ready to be flown by crew in hunt/kill simulations.

Endeavour in 3D

The first 3D models of Endeavour have been released. While these are only basic 3D ‘sketches’ they provide a good perspective on the proportions and fundamental layout of the hull and superstructure. Endeavour will have overall length of just under 300 metres and a mast-to-mast height of 150 metres.

Interface Designs

I've just seen an article which showcases some very cool console interfaces designed for the new sci-fi show Nightflyers. Of course being sci-fi these designs don't actually have to work, just hint at underlying functionality and otherwise look cool. By comparison, the console designs for Endeavour have to actually work as well as look good.

First Look: Live Tactical Exercise

Here's a first look at a live tactical exercise, giving a preview of what it will be like on Endeavour's bridge. The exercise assessment provides a series of snapshots of key moments during a Tactical Operating Environment exercise held in an 'active' simulator, including the data the trainees saw and what they were thinking when they made their decisions.

Original Endeavour found

I didn't realise she'd been lost... to be honest, I assumed such an iconic ship was a museum piece somewhere. But it turns out she went on to take part in the American Revolutionary War and was scuttled during a blockade.

At least they think they've found the original Endeavour... only a great deal of painstaking excavation work will tell.

Strange new worlds...

The sequel to Neil deGrasse-Tyson's Cosmos series is on the way, called Cosmos:Possible Worlds. Apparently a look at what alien life might look like and what humanity is doing to get there (obviously without reference to the ISDC).

Article and lik to official trailer here: https://www.engadget.com/2018/07/22/cosmos-possible-worlds-trailer/
